In Lucis Umbra
In the Shadow of Light
“Lux, lucis” in Latin means light but the same root lux- is found in the English word luxury. In Lucis Umbra hints at the double-edged nature of luxury and money — both a creating and a neglecting force — which is represented by the constantly opposed duality of shadow and light.
Our observation point, The Shard, acting like a 310-meter-high glass-covered sundial, is representative of all the recent explosion of development funded by foreign capital. The lines of shadow and reflection highlight the everyday physical impact that these buildings (and relative capital) have on cityscapes all over the world.
