Is the Sea Really Blue?
This conjoined exhibition featuring the projects Anemoia (Haakon Sand) and Oltremare (Marco Massa) explores the connection between the sea as a place and the sea as a metaphor. There are common themes running through these projects: motherhood, belonging and memory. Both projects are set on an island, one physical, the other psychological. The island of Hvaler is a place of belonging and -- surrounded by a calm sea -- it acts as a motherly figure; but the island is also a metaphor for a person's experience with their illness and how such condition affects their role as a mother. This exhibition questions the subjective experience of a place we belong to, or an altered life.
